I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what defines us in this life. Is it our actions, our personal values, the relationships we hold most dear, is it one thing or many?
These questions lay at the core of my recent creative studies, and are the primary source of inspiration for my new collection of abstract paintings, Bodysnatchers, a series that explores relationships and the emotions that get wrapped up in them. This, and a fascination with painting and its ability to tell a story through visual language helped me to create the specific moods I wanted to reflect on the canvas.
I used a number of applications to create these pieces of intense colour, texture and depth, often flattering numerous layers down, to then export into the next programme to either edit or apply more marks. Using these digital techniques, I was able to capture mood through movement and repetition. The approach to each piece began with laying down base colours, these were then manipulated and duplicated, helping me build dense layers.
The first piece in the collection, ‘Palma’, is a pure celebration. The piece captures the freedom and energy that you would associate with dance. A vibrant carnival of colour plays out, each part screaming for attention, allowing new details and moments to emerge.
The marks in ‘Crawler’ are apathetic, they drag and scrawl all over the canvas, meandering around one another building up the layers. Colours blend and merge into one another with indifference.
The collection is made up of 8 large-scale abstract paintings, minted on the Solana blockchain. Having minted a large number of pieces previously, the intention moving forward is to create lower-numbered collections.
